Welcome to GopherIsrael Online! As a group of students at the University of Minnesota, we dedicate our time to Israel advocacy on campus, around Minnesota, and in Washington DC. Through media, politics and cultural events GI works to bring Israeli culture to Minnesota, educate tomorrow’s leaders on the Middle East, and create educated, effective advocates of Israel. Birthright Israel Excel
BIE is a selective 10-week summer fellowship program in Israel for talented American Jewish undergraduate students who are pursuing careers in business, technology, biotech, marketing and social media. Each Birthright Israel Excel Fellow will intern at a prominent multinational Israeli company, travel to Israeli sites, meet with prominent members of the business, political and academic communities, and join an exclusive community of future global Jewish business and technology leaders. Upon return from Israel, Birthright Israel Excel participants will be paired with business mentors in the U.S. The goal of the mentor program is to further broaden the participants’ understanding of global economics, decision making and social responsibility. All expenses associated with flights, housing and group programming will be covered by Birthright Israel Excel. This program is open (but not exclusive) to Taglit-Birthright Israel alumni. Applicants who have previously visited Israel, whether for educational or non-educational purposes, are eligible to apply.

Kibbutz Lotan – Go Green…In Israel!
5771 begins with a kibbutz full of activity and blessings. The date harvest started early in August and the crop was delicious. ur community has expanded with new families, newborn babies, Israeli high school graduates on a yearlong leadership training program, volunteers from around the world and US college students participating in our fall semester Peace, Justice & Environment program in conjunction with UMass Amherst, Living Routes and MASA. In November 2009, the University of Minnesota approved Study Abroad to Israel for the first time since it’s founding. Starting fall of 2010, students could begin studying through two approved programs at Israeli institutions: Hebrew University in Jerusalem and Haifa University in Haifa.
